HAUSE FIELD GUIDE · REVIEWED 25 OCTOBER 2026
Define the boundary
Two totals are only comparable when they describe the same work. Put the affected rooms, surfaces, contents and excluded spaces beside each quote. Ask whether adjoining units, cavities or ventilation are included or will be assessed later. Record “not assessed” distinctly from “not affected”.
Separate the work packages
Assessment, testing, removal, cleaning, disposal, verification and reinstatement are different activities. A proposal may include some and exclude others. Ask for labour, equipment, consumables, disposal, access costs and tax to be identified clearly. If a third party will perform testing or repairs, record who appoints and pays that party.
Treat allowances as assumptions
An allowance is not a promise that hidden conditions will fit within it. Write down what would trigger a change, how the additional scope is priced and who must approve it. Compare a fixed defined scope with a time-and-materials proposal using the same assumptions about access, quantities and working hours.
Record the handback
Ask what documents you receive and which items remain open at completion. Payment stages, variation approvals and follow-up arrangements belong in the written agreement. The quote comparison worksheet adds your own figures; it does not generate a market price or establish that a proposed method is appropriate.
The project questions are HAUSE planning prompts. Refer to the responsible authority and qualified provider for requirements that apply to your situation.
